Our Authors

Andrey Frolov graduated with honours degree from the Faculty of Foreign Affairs of Saint Petersburg State University and in 2003 from French-Russian Masters’ School of Political Science and International Relations.In 2003–2004 – researcher at the Center for Policy Studies in Russia (PIR-Center), executive editor ofYaderny Kontrol magazine (in Russian). In 2004 – project manager of Export control system transformation in Russia in 1999–2003 programme. A Centre for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies (CAST) researcher since January 2011.

Anton Lavrov graduated from the Tver State Technical University. An independent military analyst and one of the most prominent independent Russian researchers of the 2008 Russian-Georgian War.

Yuriy Lyamin born 1982 in Irkutsk. Graduated from the Russian and International Law faculty of the Baikal State University of Economics and Law. Author of several articles on the armed forces and armed conflicts in the Middle East. Currently works for the Armament Research Services company.

Konstantin Makienko. Graduated from the Oriental Department of the Moscow National Institute for International Relations in 1995 and the French-Russian Masters’ School of Political Science and International Relations in 1996. He was head of a project on conventional armaments at the Center for Policy Studies in Russia (PIR-Center) in 1996-1997. Since September of 1997, he has been Deputy Director of CAST. He is the author of numerous articles on Russia’s military-technical cooperation with other countries.

Alexander Mladenov is an aerospace consultant, writer and photographer who has started writing in local and international magazines in the early 1990s. A graduate from the Sofia Technical University in 1997, he also graduated from the Bulgarian Higher Air Defence and Artillery School - Reserve Officer School in 1997. He specialised in the coverage of Soviet/Russian and East European military aviation and aerospace industry subjects, both during the Cold War and current developments, with especial interest in the helicopter industry and military/commercial operations. He is a regular contributor to a number of English-language specialized aerospace & defence magazines such as AirForces Monthly, AIR International, Combat Aircraft, Defence Helicopter and RotorHub. In addition to the aerospace journalism, Alexander Mladenov is a partner in a Sofia, Bulgaria-based consultancy agency, specialised in the marketing and sales services in the aerospace, defence and security sector on the local market.

Aleksey Nikolsky graduated from the Moscow National University of Economics, Statistics and Informatics in 1995. Worked as a correspondent for several newspapers and for Vedomosti since 2001.

Aleksey Ramm is an observer for the Izvestia newspaper. Graduated from the Military University. Served in various capacities in the Siberian Military District before being appointed group lead in the MoD secretariat. Became a military observer after retirement from military service. Author of numerous articles about the development of the Russian Armed Forces. Covered the fighting in southeastern Ukraine as a military reporter.

Vadim Zaytsev graduated from the the History, Political Sciences and Law faculty of the Russian State Humanitarian University in 2007. Completed a post-graduate course at the Institute of African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 2010. Worked for Rosafroekspertiza, a research and consulting center specializing in Russian-African relations, in 2006-2009. Joined the Kommersant Publishing House as an editor in 2010.
