Our Authors


Dmitry Boltenkov, a graduate of the Rostov State University, is a naval historian and independent navy analyst. He is also the author of an upcoming treatise on the history of the Soviet and Russian naval aviation.

Vasily Kashin, PhD. In 1996 graduated from the Institute of Asian and African Studies (Moscow), then worked for the Russian government bodies. Currently works as a senior research fellow of the Institute of Far East Studies (Moscow). A Centre for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies (CAST) researcher since January 2012.MDB project director.

Anton Lavrov. Graduated from the Tver State Technical University. An independent military analyst and one of the most prominent independent Russian researchers of the 2008 Russian-Georgian War.

Fedor Lukyanov is editor-in-chief of the Russia in Global Affairs journal, published in Russian and English with participation of Foreign Affairs, and an international columnist with the Kommersant, Vedomosti, The Moscow Times and Gazeta.ru online source; leading national radio stations and TV channels. Fyodor Lykyanov graduated from Moscow State University 1991 as a Germanist. He worked as a correspondent, commentator and editor for many Russia media. Member of the Presidium of the Russian Council on Foreign and Defense Policy, an influential independent organization providing foreign policy expertise.

Aleksey Nikolsky. Graduated from the Moscow National University of Economics, Statistics and Informatics in 1995. Worked as a correspondent for several newspapers and for Vedomosti since 2001.

Natalya Pechorina is an observer working for Ukrinform, a Ukrainian news agency which she joined in 2002. She is also the editor of the news bulletin “Ukrinform: Defense Industry and Aerospace News”. In 2000-2002 she was a news reporter with UNIAN, another Ukrainian news agency.

Maksim Shepovalenko. Graduated from the Oriental Languages faculty of the Military Red Banner Institute in 1985, and from the Law Faculty of the Russian State Humanitarian University in 1997. Served in the Soviet/Russian Armed Forces in 1980-1997. Captain 2nd Rank, retired. Specializes in pre-export bank financing of the Russian industry since 1998, and leasing of industrial equipment and special hardware since 2004.

Vadim Zaytsev graduated from the the History, Political Sciences and Law faculty of the Russian State Humanitarian University in 2007. Completed a post-graduate course at the Institute of African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 2010. Worked for Rosafroekspertiza, a research and consulting center specializing in Russian-African relations, in 2006-2009. Joined the Kommersant Publishing House as an editor in 2010.
