Our Authors

Konstantin Makienko. Graduated from the Oriental Department of the Moscow National Institute for International Relations in 1995 and the French-Russian Masters’ School of Political Science and International Relations in 1996. He was head of a project on conventional armaments at the Center for Policy Studies in Russia (PIR-Center) in 1996-1997. Since September of 1997, he has been Deputy Director of CAST. He is the author of numerous articles on Russia’s military-technical cooperation with other countries.

Maksim Shepovalenko Graduated from the Oriental Languages faculty of the Military Red Banner Institute in 1985, and from the Law Faculty of the Russian State Humanitarian University in 1997. Served in the Soviet/Russian Armed Forces in 1980-1997. Captain 2nd Rank, retired. Specializes in pre-export bank financing of the Russian industry since 1998, and leasing of industrial equipment and special hardware since 2004.

Mikhail Barabanov Graduated from the Moscow National University of Culture, then worked for the Moscow City Government. Editor-in-Chief of MDB since 2008. An expert on naval history and armaments.

Natalya Pechorina is an observer working for RIA-Novsoti (Ukraine) news agency since 2014. She was the editor of the news bulletin “Ukrinform: Defense Industry and Aerospace News”. In 2000-2002 she was a news reporter with UNIAN, another Ukrainian news agency.

Said Aminov is a 1994 cum-laude graduate of the Moscow Bauman National University of Technology specializing in aviation instruments and systems; in 1998, he graduated from the Financial Academy under the Government of the Russian Federation specializing in banking. He has been working in the Russian banking system servicing corporate customers since 1994. As of 1999, he operates his own on-line project Air-Defense Herald (pvo.su), dealing with various issues of air and missile defense.

Vasiliy Kashin PhD. In 1996 graduated from the Institute of Asian and African Studies (Moscow), then worked for the Russian government bodies. A Centre for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies (CAST) researcher and MDB project director in 2012-2015. Currently works as a senior research fellow of the Institute of Far East Studies (Moscow) and in the Higher School of Economics.
